Hi, I’m Shalaka

I am a qualified teacher with over 15 years of classroom experience across KS1 and KS2. As an educator I thoroughly love my job and can’t think of anything else I’d rather do.

My teaching is rooted in real classroom practice. That means structured lessons, clear behaviour expectations, modelling and marking — the same rigour you’d expect from a good school, applied to a small group or one-to-one setting.

I pride myself on bringing the very best out of each and every child regardless of level. My current role as an intervention specialist lets me see the immediate impact of focused teaching — bringing pupils up to speed on grammar, spelling, vocabulary and sentence structure, often in a matter of weeks.

Through my tuition, children have gone on to excellent SATs, 11+ and 13+ results, and have gained places at a range of grammar and independent schools. My support doesn’t end on exam day — many families carry on working with me once their child has arrived at their new school, whether that’s for continued English development, Common Entrance at 13+, or simply staying ahead.

Writing is a personal passion of mine and I relish the chance to introduce new literary techniques, ambitious vocabulary and complex grammatical structures. I always model how to write a piece before asking a child to do so.

I adapt my teaching to the individual child. From years in the classroom I know all children are unique — what comes naturally to one might challenge another. As a parent, you can be assured I tailor my lessons to bring out the best in yours.
