Group Tuition

Two to five children, one teacher, 55 minutes. Enough structure to make real progress, small enough that every child still gets their own feedback.

Small-group English tuition with Blossoming Mind.

Sessions run for 55 minutes, online or in-person. Maximum group size is 8. Initial assessment included with every new placement.

What a session looks like

Structured enough to be serious and small enough to stay personal

Every group session follows the same rhythm. What changes is the level — we group children by where they are, not when they were born.

Who it’s for

Group tuition suits children who…

  • Children who thrive with peers around them
  • Families who want a more affordable route than one-to-one (£45–£50 per child, vs £80)
  • Key Stage 1 & 2 — Years 1–6
  • 11+ entrance exam preparation — CEM, GL, ISEB and independent schools
  • Building confidence through shared discussion
  • Friendship groups — bring your own set of 2–5 children

Prefer undivided attention? Private tuition runs at a flat £80 per 55-minute session, same teaching, fully one-to-one.

Online

Zoom groups run with shared resources, live writing and real-time discussion across the screen.

At home

A quiet, focused space; materials ready on arrival.

How small groups feel in practice

Shalaka has an excellent relationship with children. She is a master of knowing the right thing to say or do, which will get the best from them. This is achieved through mutual respect, clear expectations and overall being an excellent practitioner. Pupils adore her because learning is always inspirational and meaningful, with previously disenchanted learners being inspired too. Shalaka has developed wonderful relationships with children, staff and parents and is extremely well respected.
— Jashu Vekaria MBE, Deputy Headteacher
J has attended The Blossoming Mind small group sessions for almost a year. During this time, we have seen his confidence in English comprehension and writing flourish. Shalaka’s structured approach and clear communication has enabled J to attempt comprehension tasks independently and with confidence. Her unique style and passion for writing has inspired J to think creatively whilst applying the literary techniques taught to him each session. We would recommend Shalaka’s small group sessions to any families preparing for 11+ assessments.
— Reshma, Parent
M worked with Shalaka in private and group sessions. From day one, Shalaka made her feel relaxed, supported and welcomed. She quickly identified learning needs that even her school did not pick up on. M progressed well, enjoyed her sessions, and even after 11+ exams, she was keen to carry on learning with Shalaka. I will forever be grateful for the support, the push she gave M to improve her exam technique, and the comfort she gave M when she was struggling through the 11+ process.
